General Farm Worker

Work description

Perform general winter agricultural duties associated with the employer’s farming and livestock operation. Clean and maintain farm equipment following completion of the harvest season, including removing accumulated dirt, mud, crop residue, and debris. Clean and organize farm workshops, equipment storage areas, and other agricultural work areas. Perform snow and ice removal around farm buildings, livestock areas, equipment storage areas, and farm access areas as necessary to maintain safe and efficient farm operations. • Provide winter care for cattle and other farm livestock, including hand feeding as necessary, distributing feed, checking feed and water supplies, and observing animals for general health and well-being. Monitor heating systems in livestock shelters and perform basic maintenance necessary to keep animal housing operational during cold weather. Check livestock watering systems and thaw or remove ice from frozen water sources and equipment as necessary to maintain access to drinking water. • Handle agricultural products produced by the employer’s farming operation. Duties may include sorting, processing, preparing, packaging, weighing, labeling, and stocking employer-produced farm products for storage or direct sale. Maintain clean and sanitary agricultural processing, packaging, and storage areas. At the employer’s farm retail operation, stock and arrange employer-produced agricultural products and assist with the handling of those products to customers. • Perform other minor agricultural maintenance and winter farm duties directly related to the employer’s farming and livestock operation as needed.
